The next season of Virgin River could change everything for Doc. What will happen to the character and his dramas?
The acclaimed romantic series “Virgin River” is currently in production on its sixth season. And it is already generating controversy among viewers due to the introduction of a new central character: Mel’s father (Alexandra Breckenridge).
This twist in the plot, not present in Robyn Carr’s books that inspired the series, promises to turn everything fans knew about the story of the beloved nurse upside down.
Additionally, “Virgin River” season six will continue to follow Doc’s health journey as he deals with macular degeneration. At the end of the previous season, Doc decided to participate in a clinical trial to deal with her condition. Additionally, we will see Doc and Hope in situations never before explored in the series, which for creator Patrick Sean Smith is a healthy development.
In season five, Doc’s macular degeneration rapidly worsens, leading him to undergo medical procedures in an emergency. He finally reveals his diagnosis to Cameron, who agrees to take over the clinic. As Doc takes important steps toward accepting his role as grandfather, he also begins to contemplate a quieter life away from his work.
Although loss of vision is not a death sentence, fans are still concerned about Doc’s fate. In Robyn Carr’s novels, which served as the inspiration for the series, Doc eventually passes away.
This raises the question of whether “Virgin River” is preparing viewers to say goodbye to their favorite curmudgeon, especially after the character’s recent attempts to tie up loose ends.
With the clinic in good hands and important reconciliations made, it looks like Doc may be heading towards closure at some point. However, this is unlikely to happen during season six, where he will continue to play a crucial role, especially with regards to supporting Mel regarding her newfound father.
As fans eagerly await the development of events, season 6 of “Virgin River” promises to bring more emotions and twists, keeping viewers connected to the story of the residents of this small town.
