It’s not often that a new staff member at Holby City’s ED has an easy first day. But Nicole’s was perhaps more memorable than most after she turned up to work with an abandoned baby – then was sick all over a patient!
Casualty newcomer Sammy T Dobson tells us whether things are set to get any better for her alter ego…
Hi Sammy! What can you tell us about your character, Nicole?
The best way to describe her is an idealised version of me. When I read the first script, I identified with her so much, I said, “Well, that’s just me”. But now I’ve actually started playing her, she’s much nicer! She’s a little bit clumsy and all over the place, and uses humour as a defence. She’s had to work hard to get where she is, it’s come to her later in life, and because of that it really is her passion.
It’s fair to say Stevie wasn’t impressed with Nicole on her first day…
Yeah, and I don’t think Nicole is used to someone like Stevie. It’s a surprise to Stevie that Nicole wants a bit more reassurance, and needs a bit more praise. But as time goes on, Nicole makes it her mission to impress Stevie and win her round.
Nicole dropped a huge bombshell in her first episode when she revealed she’s pregnant!
The thing for Nicole is, you have no control over when these things happen, that’s just life. Sometimes everything happens all at once, it’s not just your work life, but you have things going on in your personal life at the same time. I landed this job and got engaged within a couple of months, so it’s funny that it’s the same for Nicole as well.
