EastEnders’ Andy Hunter star unrecognisable 19 years after exit

BBC EastEnders’ Michael Higgs is barely recognisable two decades after he waved goodbye to the soap. Having first made his mark on Albert Square as Andy Hunter in 1993, viewers saw him initially work for The Firm and serve as the main enforcer for boss Jack Dalton. However, when Jack was bumped off by Dennis Rickman in 2003, Andy stepped up to fill the void.

Andy eventually called Walford home and took over The Firm. During his time on Albert Square, he had lots of major storylines and dramatic moments, including clashes with Den Watts, Billy Mitchell and Minty Peterson. He also had romantic liaisons with Kat Slater and Sam Mitchell.

After arranging a hitman to eliminate Paul Truman, Andy met his demise at the hands of fellow gangster Johnny Allen. However, since exiting the show, he has led a completely different life, reports the Daily Star.

Since saying goodbye to EastEnders, the 61 year old has had a very successful career in the world of acting and has appeared in shows including Casualty – where he has made an appearance twice and which saw him play different characters in 2010 and 2016.

Elsewhere, he has also had roles in New Tricks and Midsomer Murders, according to Birmingham Live.

Away from the small screen, Michael has showed his talent for the big screen too and has starred in films such as Assassination Games, Prisoners of the Sun and The Marine 6: Close Quarters. Michael is also well known for his role in The Bill.

Despite his impressive career, Michael looks a world away from his Walford days. More recent roles have seen him transform into a silver fox – a far cry from the dark-haired, suave young man who stirred up trouble in EastEnders.

In real life, he’s married to Doc Martin star Caroline Catz. The 52 year old actress met her husband while working on the ITV police drama The Bill, where she portrayed Rosie Fox.

The pair are proud parents to two children – Sonny Higgs, born in 2001, and Honour Higgs, born in 2006. In a previous interview with The Daily Mail, the actress gave fans a glimpse into her personal life.

She shared with the newspaper: “Michael and I met when we worked together on The Bill in the late 90s, although we didn’t marry until 2007 when we already had the children. Marriage to another actor means that there is no explanation needed for what you do. That’s pretty refreshing.”
