Blue Bloods stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan are ‘upset and sad’ to say goodbye to the show

Moynahan added that the cast and crew have “been through it all with each other” over 14 seasons.

Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan are feeling emotional about bidding farewell to Blue Bloods and their sibling characters on the long-running cop drama, Danny and Erin Reagan, later this year.
While visiting The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, the actors shared a clip from the show’s final season, the first half of which is airing now, that featured the Reagans poking fun at one another while sitting down for their traditional Sunday dinner.
“You cannot fake that chemistry. It feels like a family,” host Drew Barrymore said afterward. “It’s been 14 seasons, this is the final one, there’s two parts to it… How are you guys feeling about it? Because I think everybody’s really upset and sad, but also happy and satiated?”
“More upset and sad,” Wahlberg interjected with a laugh.

Barrymore’s cohost Ross Mathews asked, “What does it feel like, after 14 years, saying goodbye to these characters?”

“I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,” Moynahan explained as she put a hand on Wahlberg’s shoulder. “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other.”

This season also saw Moynahan direct her third episode of the show, which aired last month. She went on to describe Wahlberg as her “biggest supporter.” And, not unlike like an actual brother, Wahlberg said he was simply there to cheer on Moynahan, even in the face of doubters.

“I don’t remember who it was so I’m not throwing anyone under the bus, but somebody came to me early on, someone said, ‘Oh, Bridget wants to direct,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, and? She’s gonna do it, right?’” He recalled. “It was like, do you think there’s anything that she can’t do? She’s been lights out, phenomenal, she’s so… When you do what we do, you just know, and she just stepped right in and is so good.”

“How about that!” Moynahan said in response, pointing to Wahlberg as the crowd applauded.

Blue Bloods will conclude with the second half of season 14 later this year.
