CBS boss confirms Blue Bloods will end this year, wants to give show ‘the sendoff it deserves’

“All shows have to come to an end,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment

Sorry Tom Selleck, our time with the Reagan family is officially coming to an end.

Following the CBS announcement that the cop drama Blue Bloods would conclude this fall, after 14 seasons, fans and cast members united in the hopes of reversing the decision. Outside of the fan-run “#SaveBlueBloods” campaign, series stars — including Selleck — got candid about their desire to keep the show going. In the wake of S.W.A.T. being uncanceled after airing its supposed final season, fans were also hopeful that the police procedural had good news coming too.

Unfortunately, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach confirms this won’t be the case.

“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” Reisenbach told reporters, per Deadline. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give [the] show the sendoff it deserves.”

Regarding pleas for the series to continue, Reisenbach added, “We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

The long-running drama follows the lives of NYPD’s First Family of Law Enforcement: the Reagans. Selleck stars as patriarch and police commissioner Frank Reagen, who leads a family of cops dedicated to protecting their city. The multi-generational series stars Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, and Andrew Terraciano as his children.

Commenting on the show’s cancelation earlier this year, Selleck said, “CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas.”

Just last month, Wahlberg admitted to being “upset and sad” about saying goodbye to the show and its cast. “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other.”

The first half of Blue Bloods’ 14th season kicked off Feb. 16, and the second half is set to return in October, culminating with a December series finale.
