‘Blue Bloods’ Stirs Things Up in Season 9 by Welcoming Back a Woman From Frank Reagan’s Past
The cast of Blue Bloods has remained fairly consistent through the past eight seasons, with only a few shocking changes taking place since the crime drama’s inception in 2010. Minor characters have come and gone over the years, but some made a bigger splash than others.
In season 4, we were introduced to Kelly Peterson. Played by Bebe Neuwirth, the beautiful and charming new Inspector General was known to bump heads with Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) as she oversaw his department. It was Peterson’s job to investigate corruption, fraud, and abuse. While they were often at odds, they had met years before her character actually appeared on the show—and apparently, there was some chemistry between the two.
After several episodes in season 4, Peterson resigned. She admitted to Commissioner Reagan that she’d developed feelings for him, and she could not effectively do her job because of her lack of “professional animosity” towards the NYPD.
Then Peterson made a comeback in season 8 for the first time in four years, and fans were thrilled to see Neuwirth back on the show.
Lucky for them, there’s more where that came from in season 9. CBS confirmed on their website that “Neuwirth returns as Kelly Peterson, the corporation counsel who handles civil claims against the department.” Newly released photos from the second episode of the new season show Peterson speaking with Reagan inside his office. We aren’t body language experts, but from the looks of these photos, there seems to be some tension.
The episode Peterson returns in is called “Meet the New Boss.” We’ll have to wait until it airs on October 5 to learn exactly what that means.
