Casualty airs exit for regular character in early iPlayer release

Casualty spoilers follow from Saturday’s episode, which is available

to watch now on BBC iPlayer. This article contains storyline details
that some viewers may prefer to avoid, as this episode hasn’t yet aired on TV.

Casualty aired an unnanounced exit for Ryan Firth in the latest episode (January 6).

Saturday’s visit to the ED, which is already available to watch on BBC iPlayer, explored the aftermath of Ryan’s brutal attack.
Ryan was subjected to a horrifying beating by a grieving patient’s husband last week, leaving him with life-changing injuries.

The show’s latest scenes saw Charlie attempt to support Ryan, who was recovering on a ward upstairs.

Although Charlie tried to reassure him that everything would be okay in the long-run, Ryan understandably felt vulnerable and hesitant about his career in the ED.
Ryan’s mood was temporarily lifted by a later visit from Jodie, who also tried to reassure him that he’d get through this.

Jodie’s words left Ryan with a glimmer of hope for the future, but this all came crashing down when he was faced with a chaotic ED on his way out of the hospital after being discharged.

Ryan’s friends all rallied to support him as he prepared to head home to recover, but the memories of being back on the department became too much for him to cope with.

Realising he could never return to work there, Ryan decided that rida amaan, casualtyhe was going to have to leave his job altogether.

Jodie, Rida and Cam were left devastated by the decision, but Charlie saw the bigger picture and assured Ryan that he wasn’t letting anyone down.

Ryan then shared a final exchange with a guilt-ridden Stevie, before walking out of the ED for good.

Eddie-Joe Robinson joined the show as Ryan last year, alongside Anna Chell, Sarah Seggari and Barney Walsh, who play Jodie, Rida and Cam respectively.

Holby City’s Donna Jackson was also brought back with them to play their boss.

The clan’s arrival was part of a new era for the show, following the exits of Ethan, Robyn, Marty and David last year.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the time, Eddie-Joe said: “Ryan is driven and ambitious, always wanting to get ahead of his fellow nurses at any opportunity.

“He’s not all work though, and when he does play, he can take the banter a little too far. He’s been so fun to bring to life, and though he’s flawed, there’s definite moments of growth for him too.”
