EastEnders fans were left baffled when Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) appeared in a recent episode using a pair of crutches. The soap favourite was seen sporting a mystery injury as she made her way into her living room to chat with girlfriend Eve Unwin (Heather Pearce), in an episode which aired on 27 May.
Suki and Eve sat down to discuss Eve’s upcoming birthday plans, and she soon hinted at what had caused her to use crutches. Eve jokingly branded her “hop-along” with Suki then responding: “It’s not a proper mosh pit unless somebody ends up on crutches and you know it.”
No more details surrounding Suki’s injury were given, but actress Balvinder has actually injured herself in real life. She was seen on the red carpet at the BAFTAs earlier this month wearing a moon boot and using crutches. She is yet to disclose how she injured herself in real life, but she smiled for the cameras at the event didn’t appear to be in too much pain.
In EastEnders, Suki’s injury is the least of her worries at the moment however, as her estranged husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) has made a shock return to Walford. Nish left Albert Square a couple of months ago after his family kicked him out, following months of scheming.
He turned up at the Panesar residence claiming he had wrongly received both his and Suki’s divorce papers. Having convinced granddaughter Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) to let him into the house, the rest of the Panesars were unimpressed to see him back.
However, Nish soon revealed why he was really back in Walford and proceeded to explain that he is terminally ill. He shared his hopes of spending his final months with his family, but Suki and Eve didn’t believe him and neither did son Ravi (Aaron Thiara).
Nish’s grandchildren Avani and Davinder (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury) were keen to forgive him, along with their mum Priya (Sophie Khan Levy). A family vote was held, and the majority agreed they did not want to believe Nish nor spend time with him.
In response to his ex-wife’s actions, Nish went and sold the cafe for £1 to Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), who previously owned the venue. He then informed Suki that he had altered his will and all of his assets will be going to the Gurdwara, leaving her furious. It was later revealed Nish had been telling the truth about his terminal illness and was informed he has only weeks left to live while at the hospital.
