We have a few ideas of what we might see when season two of Virgin River lands on Netflix in November. From making predictions based on how season one ended to gleaning insight from the book series the show is based on, we have a few clues about where the show is (maybe) heading. Season one left us with a heaping handful of cliffhangers — pretty much with every character — so we’re curious if season two will tackle those right away or draw them out. Nevertheless, here are some of our thoughts on what to expect in season two.
Mel and Jack May Work Things Out
The end of season one saw Mel bailing on Virgin River after she finds out Jack’s ex Charmaine is pregnant. However, Netflix’s November preview shows that Mel is definitely in town. This photo from season two also shows Mel and Jack looking pretty comfortable with each other, so we’re hoping that means they work out their trouble with Charmaine and actually get together.
However, if you know anything about the Virgin River book series, you have an idea of the tumultuous relationship Mel and Jack go through, and we’re hoping the happiness between the two of them is what we get on the show and not the huge ups and downs that the book characters get.
We’ll See New Faces
So the way the Virgin River book series works is that each book really brings in a new story with new characters. The first season of the show actually pulled from the first two books of the series. Because Netflix’s show is clearly focusing on the core characters we’ve already met, we expect the second season to stick with them and expand on those stories. However, for longevity sake, we think we might get some of the new characters from the book series. What’s On Netflix says there will be a handful of new cast members joining this season, so we’ll have to wait to see what their stories hold.
An Engagement, a Heartbreak, and a Murder
While we don’t know who will be involved in any of these, TV Insider claims season two of Virgin River will include an engagement, a heartbreak, and a murder.
It feels too obvious for the engagement to be Mel and Jack so maybe it’s Preacher or someone else. We’re hoping the murder isn’t Paige, but the cliffhanger at the end of the first season feels like her future is uncertain. In the books, though, Paige’s ex-husband ends up behind bars and she ends up OK, so that may happen here as well.
As for heartbreak, well, that could be anyone.
The Secondary Characters Will Get More of a Story
Martin Henderson, who stars as Jack, said in an interview in May that though the first season really focussed on his character and Mel, the second season will go more into the stories of other characters that we met in the first season. He said Hope and Doc will get more screen time, as well as Preacher. He added that Ricky, the young man who works in his bar, will even get a bigger storyline this season.
