Stephanie March Says ‘Yes!’, She’d Love to Reprise Her ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Role as Alex Cabot (Exclusive)

Assistant District Attorney Alex Cabot is ready for her close up, your honor.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit‘s Stephanie March spoke to PEOPLE at the show’s 25th anniversary celebration in New York City on Tuesday night, and she says she’d love to portray the beloved ADA once again.

“I mean, I wouldn’t say no to the opportunity and cash prizes! Yes!” March said when asked if she’d ever return to the series helmed by Mariska Hargitay.

The actress played ADA Alex Cabot beginning in 2000 on the second season of the long-running NBC series, where she remained for the next three years.

She’s continued to return for guest appearances in numerous subsequent seasons — though fans haven’t seen her since season 19 of the drama in 2018.

While speaking to PEOPLE at the celebration, March was dressed in a dazzling royal blue suit — a look she called: “Alex Cabot, dialed up!”

March added that her favorite part of being involved with such an institution of a show were the celebratory moments, just like that very night.

“I just passed Dann [Florek] and I haven’t seen him in a couple of years, so I’m very excited about that. And Ice and Coco? It’s a good reunion,” she said.

Florek portrayed SVU captain Donald Cragen for the first 15 seasons of the show before his character retired, handing the reigns over to Olivia Benson (Hargitay). And, much like March, Ice-T has been playing Fin Tutuola since joining SVU for season 2 in 2000.

For the show’s lasting success and impact, March ultimately credits the true-crime nature and people like Hargitay who work so hard to bring survivors’ stories to life.

“Unfortunately, [the show] is ripped from the headlines. So I do think that people can identify with a lot of what is on the show in terms of content,” says March. “And I have to say, I think the principal actors are terrific, and I have so much admiration and love for them.”
