Tony Goldwyn Admits to ‘Needling’ Scandal Costar Kerry Washington to Appear on ‘Law & Order’: ‘I’m All for It’ (Exclusive)

During an appearance on PEOPLE in 10 on June 6, the actor, 64, shared how he’s been making a case for Washington to make an appearance on Law & Order.

“I’m all for it,” he said of a potential cameo and laughed, “I have been sort of needling her about it.”

Goldwyn and Washington have often teased fans with snippets from Scandal — and their characters’ love story, famously dubbed “Olitz,” a combination of Olivia Pope (Washington) and President Fitzgerald Grant II (Goldwyn).

Goldwyn — who joined Law & Order following Sam Waterson’s exit in February — told PEOPLE in a recent interview that their Scandal characters endured a “tortured love affair” during the show’s run from 2012 to 2018, as he expressed his desire for his former costar to give him some tips on crime-stopping.

“I’m a little hurt that she hasn’t called me to give me some tips, but I’m sure they’re coming,” he said of her prior role as Washington, D.C.’s resident fixer.

In Law & Order, Goldwyn takes on the role of District Attorney Nicholas Baxter. After filming the legendary crime-fighting show’s 500th episode — which aired in May — the actor revealed that the network had a “big party” on set with creator Dick Wolf where he noticed that he was the “newest character” in attendance.

“It was funny, when I came in on episode seven, I guess of 13, it was a short season this year because of the strike,” Goldwyn told PEOPLE of season 23. “Reid Scott, who was the previous new guy at the beginning of the season, ‘Thank God I’m not the new guy anymore.’ But I still feel like the new guy.”

“But toward the last few episodes, I really felt starting to settle in and it’s a beautiful group of people and really wonderful collection of actors as Law & Order always has,” he added.

“So it’s been really fun and created a very interesting character for me, which, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into,” he continued. “But so far it’s been really fun and the last few episodes of the season are really very smart and surprising and it’s been great.”
